Last Minute Opinions

Postby t120r » Sun May 23, 2010 9:09 am

Hey guys, I have the mill all set up and ready to go. Just want to know what you guys think of my groove placement. I will follow AutomotiveBreath's advice and use a 1/16" ball end mill going 0.080" deep. Then I will blend and smooth the groove (0.125" deep/wide) and the transition to the chamber. Here's a picture:

The red outline is the gasket sealing ring and the red lines are the grooves. One pointed at the plug and the one opposite of the plug is pointed just off center towards the exhaust valve as per MPGMike's recommendation. Please give any feedback you can as this will be machined around midnight tonight.

Grooves are cut on one head... On the other head I broke my bit. F&*K!!! Got my last groove 0.015" deep.. Tried to cut too much in a pass. I was doing 0.005" a pass but increased it to 0.015" because I was running out of time. Never rush a mill.

You going to do any edging in that chamber?

1979 Honda CB650, 627cc SOHC4 => 65/47mpg.

Of course. The picture is a VERY bad one taken with a cellphone so you really can't see. There is a decent radius on it now. I plan to do more soon as I get the grooves cut and blended. I also plan to do a little more work mirror polishing the chamber.
